Interactive Challenges 2: Storage and Bandwidth

Storage + bandwidth; for particularly popular applications, such as Facebook and YouTube, the costs of storing user driven content are enormous (Google for example is one of the biggest consumers of electricity on the planet) and can quickly overwhelm the standard server that a museum might use,

Thus far we're addressing this by hosting the content centrally (on our systems) thus taking advantage of economies of scale associated with storage and bandwith. By aggregating this content, we're taking cost out of the equation for institutions; as it is no longer a concern for them, this makes these tools much more interesting in a time of shrinking budgets, when we're all seeking innovative ways to connect our museums to our communities. Thanks for reading - our next post in this series will focus on relevance.
